Newcastle Jets wonderkid James Holland is in doubt for Sunday’s A-League grand final after he strained his right quadriceps muscle at training this week.
Holland will be monitored over the next two days before a decision on his availability is made, after the midfielder felt a twinge during a shooting drill.
“He felt a bit tight in his quad when we were doing some finishing, so it was more precautionary,” coach Gary van Egmond told the Daily Telegraph.
Recent Korean recruit Jin-Hyung Song, who earned the penalty that led to Newcastle’s second goal in their 3-2 win over Queensland last weekend, has been training in Holland’s position while the teenager rests.
The Jets and their local derby grand final opponents the Central Coast Mariners have been trading verbal blows all week in the lead up to the much anticipated A-League decider.
